Sculi — Light, Matter, and a New Form of Writing

1. Light and Matter

In Sculi’s work, light maintains a particular relationship with matter. It does not simply illuminate the sculpture: it participates in its perception and expression.

Sculi works directly with resin using a personal technique he has developed through his research. He builds and shapes the material in order to create forms, volumes, and depths that can then interact with light.

Resin thus becomes a space in which light can penetrate, diffuse, reflect, or appear in different places. Light reveals certain forms, transforms others, and can give the material a different presence depending on the lighting and the viewer’s point of view.

This relationship between matter and light allows Sculi to create sculptures that are not merely fixed volumes. Light reveals another dimension of the work, situated between matter and the immaterial.

2. Light Drawings

From this exploration of matter and light, Sculi develops light drawings.

Using optical fibers integrated into his sculptures, he creates luminous lines that travel through the material, follow its forms, cross certain volumes, or emerge within space.

These light drawings are conceived as true drawings. They can accompany a drawing made in the material, respond to it, or overlap with it. Sculi thus creates a dialogue between traditional drawing and luminous drawing.

Light then becomes a line. It can create a trajectory, highlight a form, open up depth, or alter the perception of a volume.

Drawing is no longer limited to a surface. It can enter matter and extend into space.

3. Light as a New Form of Writing

This research leads Sculi to go beyond the simple use of light in sculpture.

Through his light drawings, he gradually develops another way of constructing forms and conveying expression. He combines matter, volumes, colors, drawing, and light to create a language of his own.

Light thus becomes a true means of writing.

Sculi is not only seeking to represent something with light. He explores the possibility of creating signs, lines, and forms with it that are capable of carrying expression.

This research is part of cosmomorphism, which aims in particular to give visible form to emotions, sensations, and energies. Light allows Sculi to go further in this exploration and to give form to what does not necessarily have a material representation.

Thus, light gradually becomes an artistic vocabulary.

Sculi’s work with light creates a new form of writing.

A writing that is no longer based solely on words, drawing, or matter, but on the encounter between light, matter, form, color, and space.
